Hi, I'm Regina, an illustrator and aspiring children's book writer. I live in Taipei, Taiwan with my husband and young son and have been practicing contemporary gongbi painting for a couple of years. ā
ā
These three characters that I've created represent the three traditional sources of Classical Chinese thinking: Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism.ā Some items that they hold are commonly seen during the Lunar New Year in Taiwan. The ox holds a red lantern, said to be a color and light that wards off evil spirits and bad fortune at this time of year. The boy holds a red envelope provided by parents and elders with New Year money inside, said to help children prosper, thrive, and grow for another year. The rabbit holds incense sticks that are used to send prayers and offerings to the Jade Emperor in Heaven and one's ancestors for abundance in the new year.
I wish you and your loved ones peace, health, and happiness! šā
Dear Regina, I just found your page and your paintings and thoughts are just beautiful. They have inspired and made my day. Thank you. I live in Michigan and we are starting a small Auxillary to come along side those who work and reside in an assisted care facility and your artistry and thoughts would be such a joy for those there. I haven't viewed all of them yet but love the one about living in a world where fists are closed and mercy is as simple as an opened hand to begin the day.....Im paraphrasing but you know which one I am talking about....and another is the boy carrying a baby in his back pack at the same timeā¦
